Our Church
Ridge Baptist Church being established in the late 1800’s has been spreading the good news of the gospel for over 120 years.
God graciously provided a parsonage and meeting place for our church many years ago. Since those early days, both buildings have seen considerable changes though the structures remain the same.
The parsonage was home to a number of pastors over the years many whom have since gone on to heaven. One pastor in particular was also a composer of music with over a dozen songs published in various hymn books.
Stanton W. Gavitt was an accordionist and prolific songwriter whose music has been sung around the world. A couple of his most popular songs include “I’m So Happy Here’s the Reason Why” and “Things Are Different Now”. Pastor Gavitt was pastor of Ridge Baptist Church here in Lubec for two years before serving the Lord Jesus in evangelism.
Pastor Gavitt was born in Westerly, Rhode Island on August 1911. He and his wife, Elizabeth lived between Rhode Island and Maine. Stanton died at Old Orchard Beach, ME at the age of 73 and is buried in Saco, ME.
Our church today proclaims the same message pastor Gavitt preached and sang about many years back. Though times change, God has not. God is the same today as He was at the beginning of time. His Word, the Bible still speaks of His everlasting love for sinners. Come join us to hear simple truths of the Bible that makes all that believe “Alive thru Christ”.
